Privacy Policy
Last updated 4 August 2026
Hold True holds some of the most personal writing you will ever do. This policy explains exactly what we collect, what we do with it, and what we will never do. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
What you give us
Everything in Hold True comes from you. There is no tracking pixel, no advertising identifier, and no third-party analytics SDK collecting your behaviour in the background.
What we never collect
How your Personal Code is created
To write your Personal Code, the answers you typed during onboarding are sent to an AI model provider that generates the draft principles. This is the only time your writing leaves your device for processing.
That processing happens for you, on request. Your answers are not used to train any model, and they are not retained by the provider beyond the time needed to return a result. We send the text of your answers and nothing that identifies you personally.
Where it lives
Your Personal Code and check-ins are stored on your device. If you sign in with Apple, an encrypted copy is also stored on our servers so that your code can be recovered if you lose or replace your phone.
If you never sign in, nothing is stored on our servers, and deleting the app deletes your data with it.
Sign in with Apple
We use Sign in with Apple so that we never handle a password. Apple gives us an anonymous identifier for your account. If you use Apple’s private relay, we never see your real email address either.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are billed by Apple through the App Store. Apple tells us whether your subscription is active. Apple does not give us your card details, billing address, or purchase history for anything else.
Notifications
If you turn on reminders, we schedule them on your device. Reminder content never includes the text of your principles — a notification on a lock screen should not reveal what you wrote.
What we do with any of it
We use your data to run the app for you: to generate your code, show it back to you, record your check-ins, and write your reflections.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or partners. We do not read your Personal Code, and we do not build profiles for marketing.
Your rights
You can export everything you have written from Settings, at any time, including after a subscription lapses. Export is never gated behind payment.
You can delete your account from Settings. Deletion removes your Personal Code, your removed principles, your check-ins, your reflections, and your onboarding answers. It cannot be undone and cannot be recovered by signing in again. Deleting your account does not cancel your Apple subscription — that is managed through the App Store.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights over your data. Email us and we will honour them.
Children
Hold True is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that affects what we collect or how we use it, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect — not by quietly updating a date at the top of a page.
